How and when did Pennies for Education and Health start? Pennies for Education and Health was ' otext += 'founded in January 2003 during an informal gathering in Houston. Basheer Khumawala and his family had visited the earthquake and riots stricken ' otext += 'areas of Gujarat, India. Their visit to the refugee camps was something they could not forget. The helpless cries of the families and seeing the ' otext += 'countless children with no hope for the future spurred them to start this sponsorship program. |

What is PEH’s mission statement? Pennies for Education and Health (PEH) with the help of God works ' otext += 'towards helping to transform the lives of children and their families primarily in the developing world who lack adequate education and health ' otext += 'care. It provides means for educating needy and deserving children through a donor sponsorship program. PEH also provides for their health care ' otext += 'needs through the efficient and effective distribution and provision of donated medical supplies and other resources. Our program extends to ' otext += 'all people, regardless of faith, gender, or ethnicity. Driven by faith and in partnership with people like you, PEH enables these children ' otext += 'to realize their potential by tackling the root causes of poverty.' otext += ' EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION AND GOOD HEALTH IS OUR GOAL!! |

Who decides which children need help? Local NGO’s that are involved with the refugees, and ' otext += 'the poor identify the children and the families. Once children have been nominated for sponsorship it is the job of our local representative on ' otext += 'site to conduct an assessment of the child's educational needs, and the resources of their family in order to determine whether or not the child ' otext += 'satisfies our criteria. Once the assessment is complete, an application for sponsorship, including the child's details, picture if available and a ' otext += 'brief family background is forwarded to us. It is from here that the sponsors and the deserving children are matched based on the donor’s wishes. |
