Children Helping Children:
Cards
that Care Workshop
In early 2007, Saanya wrote a proposal to her school principal
and guidance counselor determined to get her school involved in this project.
As a result, on April 12, 2007 at International Night, children at Carderock
Springs Elementary had a chance to make cards and make a difference. This is
the first time that the school has undertaken a student-initiated community
service project. The school raised $1,000.
Each year, Carderock
Elementary recognizes the contributions that parents make to the school
community with a small gift, such as flowers, to parents who have volunteered
throughout the year. In 2007, the school decided to make a donation to PEH,
instead, in recognition of Saanya’s efforts and advocacy on the importance of
giving back and educating impoverished children.
